Background

The objective of our merchandising efforts in celebration of the school‘s 50th anniversary is to provide an opportunity for students, parents and friends of the JFKS to have memorabilia in remembrance of this special birthday event. We have limited the choice of merchandise to colored bags and “limited edition” t-shirts with particular focus on useful, environmentally friendly, high quality items that are, importantly, affordable for everyone.
In the development of the overarching commemoration concept we did extensive research, many design concepts, and gathered information. We collected artwork from the elementary and high school students as their input and work has been the foundation for when designed the items. This is the continuation of the logo and 50th anniversary identity development, which originated from Lucas Pretty (Grade 7), the student who won the logo competition for the 5oth Anniversary last spring. The aim is to spotlight the student body and the community spirit of JFKS and, through our merchandising efforts, communicate this beyond the immediate school community.
The t-shirts that were recently sold during the Jocelyn B. Smith concert were based on a design by Ben Schädlich (Grade 12). For the upcoming Art Show on 6 May 2010, the t-shirts will use linocut motifs created by 5th and 6th graders from Antje Weber’s art class and we will follow a similar process in develop new articles Fun Day in October.
Items will be available for sale during all of the major anniversary events. Those who are unable to attend an event may also purchase items on the school campus in the Elementary School administration hallway, GR 202, Monday through Thursdays from 12:00 – 15:00.
