"With this festschrift, we intend to take you on a trip through JFKS’s past, back into the present, leaving you with a glimpse of a vibrant future…"
These are the closing words of the editor’s note from our school’s 35th Anniversary Festschrift Committee, thus summing up very precisely what a Festschrift/ Commemoration Book is all about – a look back into the past, a statement about the present activities and a glimpse into the future, daring a forecast.
The current Commemoration Book team will, due to the very nature of this book, accordingly present its readers with an equal scheme of past, present and future, seeking to mirror the motto of our 50th Anniversary "JFKS – Creating Community – Ich bin ein Berliner" in the articles, anecdotes, pictures, and statistics submitted to us by – you!
"You" – the current students, parents, teachers of JFKS – let us know what is important for you to be in this book in order to explain what makes up our present school’s community spirit.
"You" – are the alumni students, parents, and teachers, who with enthusiasm have brought into being this experiment of bi-cultural and bi-lingual education, once totally unique to the Berlin educational system and by now a model for many other bilingual school concepts in Berlin. You have helped shape this unique school community, laying the base for the present school life – let us know what have been the important cornerstones of this development to you!
"You" – are the current administration, which will lead this school to the next decades, let us know your visions for JFKS future as the German-American Community School for Berlin.
